Bactericidal Effect of disinfectant Solution Produced by Bacteriokiller System



Abstract
Background:
@EN Disinfection is essential for the prevention of howpital infection. Bacteriokiller(BK) system has been recently developed as an apparatus which produces disinfectant. Handwashing solution from BK system shows sterilizing effect against
clinical
isolates by the action of active oxygen and hypochlorous acid. We evaluated the disinfective activity of this product against many clinically isolated strains of bacteria and yeast.
@ES Methods:
@EN 31 strains of bacteria and a strain of yeast were exposed to 20 ppm BK disinfectant for various periods (0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8 minutes). After exposure of BK disinfectant, 0.01 mL of mixture of bacteria and BK disinfectant was incubated in BHI
broth
or
Sabouraud dextrose agar, at 37¡É for 48 hours and the growth of bacteria was examined.
@ES Results:
@EN All strains of bacteria and yeast except for B. subtilis were eradicated within 30 seconds after exposure of BK disinfectant. Spore forming B. subtilis were killed in four minutes exposure.
@ES Conclusion:
@EN This study showed that BK disinfectant was effective for the disinfection of commoniy isolated bacteria and some yeast from hospital. Spore forming bacillus species nead a longer exposure time to be eradicated.
